Trecator-SC is an antibiotic. It prevents the growth of bacteria in your body.

Who should not take Trecator-SC (ethionamide)?

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor if you

• have ever had an allergic reaction to ethionamide;

• have liver disease; or

• have diabetes mellitus.

You may not be able to take ethionamide, or you may require a lower dose or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.

Trecator-SC can be taken with or without food. Taking Trecator-SC with food may decrease stomach upset.

What other drugs will affect Trecator-SC (ethionamide)?

The risk of seizures may be increased when Trecator-SC is used in combination with cycloserine (Seromycin) or isoniazid (Nydrazid). Special monitoring may be necessary if you are taking a combination of these medicines.
